Abstract:

This significantly expanded second edition includes new advanced topics on multi-objective optimization, reverse modeling, reduction of the simulation performance gap, predictive control, nature-inspired emergent simulation leading to sketches that become "alive," and an alternative economics for achieving the sustainability paradigm in addition to the application of fundamental principles that lead to an organized method for zero carbon design of buildings. The book includes design speculative work by students from the author's Master's program that aims to establish a human settlement on Mars. For most topics, there are tasks for straightforward simulation experiments that provide the reader with an easy introduction to the field while also serving as the material for classroom exercise.
